the poems write themselves
as lovers taste the pain
today is an experiment
writing and the dissection
how do you eat the pain?
gums bleeding roots of
an unplanted tree
do you write with rhyme
or is there any reason left,
when the days are all red
gaping prose with hearty
autumn eyes, a truck,
an empty bed
lovers are easier,
(a description
an inscription
on the innermost
thigh of leaving),
than explanations of the
mechanics of a poem
Day 12 of #NaPoWriMo
Today’s challenge is for you to write a poem that addresses itself or some aspect of its self (i.e., “Dear Poem,” or “what are my quatrains up to?”; “Couplet, come with me . . .”) This might seem a little “meta” at first, or even kind of cheesy. But it can be a great way of interrogating (or at least, asking polite questions) of your own writing process and the motivations you have for writing, and the motivations you ascribe to your readers.
I do not know the Artist of the featured image. Though if anyone knows, please leave a comment. It is stunning!
