surrealist surrender — Day 2

let's connect

a season of gaping wounds

cotton on the tongue with closed eyes

long winding ripples of regret

the soft screams of surrender

digging out the soul with bloodied hands

an unbroken heart beating beneath ribs

Day 2 of #NaPoWriMo

I absolutely adored today’s prompt! Based on the Romanian-born poet Paul Celan who once wrote a series of surrealist questions and answers.
  • select 5-10 words from the prompt list
  • write a question for each word you’ve selected
  • write a one-line answer—try to make the answer an image
  • place all the answers on a new page and create a poem

My words:

  • fog
  • river
  • salt
  • thunder
  • longing
  • song

My questions/answers:

  • What is fog?  Cotton on the tongue with closed eyes.
  • What is a river?  Long winding ripples of regret.
  • What is salt?  A season of gaping wounds.
  • What is thunder?  An unbroken heart beating beneath ribs.
  • What is longing?  Digging out the soul with bloodied hands.
  • What is a song?  The soft screams of surrender.
